New national climate plans from over 60 countries would cut global emissions by only 10% by 2035, far below what’s needed to limit warming to 1.5C, a UN report shows.
UN climate chief Simon Stiell urged faster action: “We have a serious need for more speed.”
Major emitters including China and the EU have yet to submit updated targets, while Donald Trump’s planned withdrawal from the Paris deal threatens US commitments.
The findings come ahead of Cop30 in Brazil next month, where leaders will discuss how to close the gap between promises and action.
Analysts warned that without stronger pledges and delivery, the world remains off track for its climate goals.
