On the sidelines of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2026, officials announced that the UAE renewable energy capacity has now exceeded 7.7 GW. Authorities highlighted that ongoing and planned projects could triple this capacity by 2031, marking a major step in the nation’s energy transition strategy.

The expansion of renewable energy is a key part of the UAE’s plan to reduce carbon emissions. Solar, wind, and other clean energy projects are being rolled out across the country, supporting both sustainability targets and national energy security.

Officials explained that the current 7.7 GW capacity reflects rapid progress over recent years. Large-scale solar farms, wind power installations, and hybrid renewable projects have contributed to this growth. These initiatives are designed to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and promote a cleaner, low-carbon energy system.

The UAE aims to increase its renewable energy share significantly by 2031. Projects under development are expected to bring total installed capacity to more than 20 GW. This ambitious expansion aligns with global efforts to tackle climate change and support the transition toward sustainable energy sources.

Experts note that scaling renewable energy also strengthens the UAE’s economic resilience. By investing in clean power infrastructure, the country is creating green jobs, attracting international investment, and enhancing technological innovation in the energy sector.

Authorities also highlighted the role of policy and planning in achieving these goals. Streamlined regulations, public-private partnerships, and international cooperation have accelerated the deployment of solar and wind power projects. These measures ensure that growth in renewable energy capacity remains sustainable and efficient.

Public awareness campaigns and corporate commitments are further boosting adoption of renewable solutions. Many private and government entities are investing in solar panels, energy storage, and clean mobility, supporting the UAE’s broader carbon reduction and climate resilience agenda.

The Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2026 event emphasized the UAE’s leadership in renewable energy innovation. Delegates from around the world recognized the nation’s achievements in scaling up clean energy solutions and promoting environmental sustainability.

Looking forward, authorities remain focused on maintaining this momentum. They plan to expand renewable energy projects, implement advanced technologies, and strengthen integration with the national grid. These steps aim to ensure the UAE meets its long-term climate and energy targets while supporting global sustainability efforts.

Overall, the announcement that UAE renewable energy capacity has surpassed 7.7 GW highlights a clear trajectory toward a cleaner energy future. With continued investment, policy support, and technological advancement, the country is set to triple its renewable output by 2031, reinforcing its role as a leader in the energy transition.
